Meeting with the master of documentary montage Maciej Drygas
after Block 3. WFO films from the period of political transformation
Partners: Wytwórnia Filmów Oświatowych w Łodzi, Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art E.V, Foundation of Polish-German Cooperation
The retrospective of the Educational Films Studio in Łódź would not be complete without Maciej Drygas' award-winning film “Hear My Cry” (1991) about Ryszard Siwiec, a man who doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire in front of a crowd of thousands during harvest festival celebrations at the Warsaw stadium in 1968. The director attempts to understand what motivated Siwiec. The film has become a fundamental part of the history of Polish cinema. The screening of “Hear My Cry” will be accompanied by the film “Playing Afults Continue” by Jadwiga Żukowska. How did the reality of filmmaking change during the transition period at the Educational Film Studio in Łódź? How did historical circumstances influence the choice of subjects? Maciej Drygas will answer our questions.
