It's Always Been Me
The film follows Max and Bastian from the end of their childhood into puberty. A chaotic time where mind and body grow apart. Max was born as a girl but just came out as a transgender boy. Bastian is born as a boy but most of the time he feels he is a girl. Max and Bastian struggle with their bodies as they develop, feeling it is not going in the right direction. They are considering whether they should stop their puberty by starting hormone treatment. A choice that will change their lives forever is becoming more and more urgent as they race against time to make the right decision. The voice is changing. The body is growing, but the consequences of hormone treatment are irreversible. How do you find out who you are when in the middle of the greatest transition of your life? Can you even trust yourself when you are also in doubt about your gender? If one is not a boy or a girl, then maybe you could just call yourself human.
