The World Health Organisation predicts that the total number of people affected by dementia will exceed 75.5 million in 2030 and that this number will double by 2050. This is attributed, partly, to the ageing population of the developed countries. What exactly are dementia and Alzheimer's disease? What are the symptoms and what is the treatment? How can we cope with the patient's peculiar behaviour, what is the modern treatment and how should carers look after themselves? Alzheimer's disease is something we will live with, and we have to learn how to do it. At this event, we will look at best approaches and good practice in supporting carers of people living with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.

Beata Pawlik - psychologist, PhD in psychology, clinical specialisation, a professional with many years of experience working with people with dementia; she has been working with the Association for several years, supporting families affected by Alzheimer's disease through group and individual classes with patients and their carers.
The Alzheimer's Association in Gdańsk was established in August 1994 to help families affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. At present, the Association has 353 members (carers and patients). We are active throughout the entire voivodeship. Our activities include a wide range of counselling, a programme of group and individual psychological and psychomotor therapy for people with Alzheimer's disease, running support groups for carers of patients, organising integration events and educating carers.
