Monday, May 13, 10:00 a.m., screening room Warszawa
Documentary Academy. Meeting with film educator Paulina Pohl
after the screening of the film THE YOUTUBE EFFECT dir. Alex Winter
This is where we listen to music, learn how to fix a printer, laugh, get inspired, and feel moved. This is where we learn about sports and politics. Here, we watch others play their favourite games for hours on end or test the latest beauty trends. It's where the spark for really silly ideas is sometimes ignited. Together with film educator Paulina Pohl from Dom Filmowy, we will reflect on the YouTube phenomenon. Do we know how to live without it today? Why and how do we use it? What is the future of the platform, the history of which is both an inspiration and a warning? Initially, it had 8 million daily visitors; today this figure has risen to 2.6 billion. How has it changed our lives and our thinking?
Host:
Paulina Pohl – cultural studies scholar, and co-founder of Dom Filmowy (Film House) – a project co-created by young people, combining educational, filmmaking and social activities. Artistic tutor supervising films by young filmmakers, she conducts film workshops with children and teenagers and supports the work of young jury members at film festivals. Cultural animator, social activist, meeting facilitator. Dom Filmowy was created out of a love for cinema and the dream of wise and conscious work with young people. We accompany them in finding their own voice so that they can tell stories through film and influence positive change in their lives, community, and world.
